 FAQs on Labels
Which side should I print on when making t-shirt transfers?
You should print on the rough side of the sheet.
Why can't I use t-shirt transfers on black t-shirts?
Avery also does t-shirt transfers that have been specially adapted for dark fabrics. The product is slightly different to transfers for light fabrics.
Does Avery have a card product that fits the pocket on an A4 ring binder?
There is no product specifically for this, but Avery's C32011 or C32015 Cards can be used successfully for this purpose.
I have an HP 5L Printer and have tried printing Avery C32011 Cards,
but the toner doesn't stick why?
The problem is that the HP 5 L is unable to handle paper of this thickness. The same applies to the HP 6L and HP 1100.
Can I use L7160 in my colour laser printer?
No. L7160 is only for mono printers. The technology in a colour laser printer is completely different and you should use Avery's range of labels specially for this purpose: L77xx.
Can I use Avery copier labels in my laser printer?
No. A laser printer generates a lot of heat when printing and the copier labels are not designed to cope with this. There is a risk of the adhesive melting and sticking to your drum.
Can I use Avery inkjet labels in my laser printer?
No. A laser printer generates a lot of heat when printing and the inkjet labels are not designed to cope with this. There is a risk of the adhesive melting and sticking to your drum.
Can I use laser labels in my inkjet printer?
Nothing drastic will happen. Problems can occur with the paper feed, because the laser sheets do not have stripped edges (which allow the sheet to be pulled in properly) like the inkjet sheets. The printing itself may not turn out perfectly.
Can I use copier labels in my inkjet printer?
Nothing drastic will happen. Problems can occur with the paper feed, because the copier sheets do not have stripped edges (which allow the sheet to be pulled in properly) like the inkjet sheets. The printing itself may not turn out perfectly.
Can I use Avery's colour laser labels in my colour copier?
Yes.

FAQs on Word, Publisher, Word Perfect, LabelPro
Where do I find Avery's templates in Word?
Go into Tools - Envelopes and Labels and click Options. Then select Avery A4 and A5 (not Avery standard).
I'm missing some Avery templates (e.g. L7676) in my version of Word - what do I do?
Avery has developed a Wizard for Word in cooperation with Microsoft that will update your version with all the Avery templates. The Wizard can be downloaded from our web site free of charge.

Of course you can! Once you have chosen the template you want to use, just click the New Document button. This will take you "back" to Word, where you will have the usual editing options.
Can I insert bar codes in Word?
Not as a rule. It is possible, however, to ask Microsoft for some special bar code fonts that allow bar codes to be created in Word.
How do I create labels with different text?
There are two options:

1- Click the New Document button and fill in the labels with different text.

2- You can also opt to use Word's merge function, which works just like mail merge - in this case you will therefore simply be merging labels. Go into Tools and select Mail Merge. Click Create, Mailing Labels, and follow the instructions on screen.
When I print my labels in Word, the text is displaced downwards – why?
This may be linked to the way in which your printer is set up. Go into File - Page Setup and set the margins to fit the sheet of labels. If the problem persists, you should contact Microsoft or your printer manufacturer.

What are IR or Bluetooth™ printers?
IR Printers are printers that have an infrared (IR) port so they can receive signals wirelessly. Most PDA’s and some notebook computers have IR ports that can be used to communicate wirelessly with other devices. IR requires an uninterrupted line of sight and is typically limited to 6-8 feet of distance.

Bluetooth™ is a different wireless technology that does not require a line of sight and works at distances of up to 20-30 feet. Many new PDA’s and mobile phones are now being equipped with Bluetooth™ or can use it thru an add-on card. Printers equipped with Bluetooth™ do not need to be physically connected to the computer or PDA that is printing to them.

What printers can I use?
The following printers can be printed to by beaming from your IR port:
  • HP LaserJet 6P
  • HP LaserJet 2100/2200
  • HP DeskJet 340/350
  • HP DeskJet 990 Cxi
  • HP Photosmart 1215/1218
  • Canon BJC-85

These printers can be printed using a Bluetooth™ card in your PDA:
  • HP DeskJet 995C
  • Epson Stylus C80 (when equipped with optional Bluetooth™ adapter)

Other printers may also support printing via IR or Bluetooth™ - consult your printer’s owners manual for details.
  •
    What PDAs can I use?
The Avery Print utility requires Palm OS v3.5 to 4.1 (not the new 5.0 series), and has been tested with the following PDA’s (other PDA’s may also work if they have IR capability and Palm OS v 3.5 to 4.1)
  • Palm III/IIIc
  • Palm V-series
  • IBM Workpad 3c
  • Palm m100/105/130
  • Palm m500/505/515
  • Sony Clie models with IR capability
(note that Sony Clie models are not compatible with the HP DeskJet 340/350 series printers)
  •

The current version of Avery® Print for PDAs supports these Avery products:

    J8160, J8560, L7160, L7560, J8162, J8562, L7162, L7562, J8163, J8563, L7063, L7163, L7563, J8165, L7165, L7565, L7765, J8169, L7169, L7769, J8551, J8651, L7551, L7651

How do I get the most recent version of Avery® Print for PDAs?
Be sure to register when you download and we’ll notify you when we update the software. Also, if you say it’s ok, we’ll send you special offers and information from time to time.

Can I enter text for a label or must I use my address book?

It’s easy to make custom text labels:

    1. After choosing the type of label you want to print on, Select “Enter Custom Text” on the main Avery Print screen
    2. Enter the Text for each label on the “Custom Text” screen, clicking New Label if you want to add a label or “Next” if you’re done.
